Lights on Afterschool Highlights the Critical Need for Afterschool Programs
How is your program marking
this important day?
The Partnership for After School Education (PASE) expresses wholehearted and strong support for Lights on Afterschool on October 16, 2008, a nationwide event to recognize the critical importance of quality afterschool programs in the lives of children, their families and communities.
On October 16, an estimated one million children, parents, business and community leaders will take part in over 7,500 Lights on Afterschool events across the nation, and the lights on the Empire State Building will shine yellow in recognition of the day. The events will emphasize the importance of keeping the lights on and the doors open for afterschool programs. This is an especially important year to bring afterschool to the forefront of public conversation as tight budgets are endangering afterschool programs here in New York and around the country, forcing many to cut back or even close their doors.
We encourage you to recognize this important day and to tell us about your program’s tell us about your program's celebration of Lights on Afterschool. We’ll share your story with media outlets and feature your event in our next PASE Bulletin.
